DENSO® Petrolatum tapes and mastics

The world’s first passive corrosion protection system for pipelines. Invented by DENSO in 1927, DENSO® petrolatum tapes and mastics quickly became the standard for ideal corrosion protection.

Systems are approved by the DIN-DVGW Institute Load class A-30 (DIN 30672, DIN EN 12068)

  • Highly plastic products for modelling on complex shaped parts

  • Cold application
  • Backing: Petrolatum (technical petroleum jelly) on non-woven fabric
  • Low degree of cleaning

DENSO® PETROLATUM TAPES AND MASTICS :

Application

They are used for filling cavities and levelling uneven surfaces on pipeline structural elements (e.g. flange connections and fittings), thus providing corrosion protection.

Insulation of wet pipelines in service conditions

Causes of condensation on the pipeline:

  • The pipe is in operation
  • Large temperature difference between the product and the environment
  • High humidity

Wet pipelines in service are usually insulated as usual:

  • Pressure reduction
  • Use of tents and dehydrators
  • Special epoxy coating > disadvantage: surface finish SA 2.5. – mandatory!
  • Disconnectingthe pipeline
Traditional corrosion protection cannot be applied to wet surfaces.
It’s time-consuming, difficult, expensive.

Sandblasting is not always permitted on the pipe in service!

Problems to solve:

  • Avoid shutting down the pipeline
  • Do not use a gas burner
  • Do not sandblast
  • Do not use special equipment (heaters, tents, etc.)
  • Find a quick, simple, cost-effective solution
  • Provide long-term corrosion protection
