Renovation of steel pipes

In 2010, our company created a sector for the restoration of steel pipes that were in operation, which allowed us to transfer a certain amount of repair work from highway conditions to stationary factory ones. This way allows you to increase the productivity and quality of repair and restoration work on the main pipelines while reducing costs due to the preservation of the main component of the pipeline – pipes.
Pipe restoration works are carried out in several stages:
- Visual inspection: assessment of the appearance of pipes, the presence of mechanical damage, metallurgical defects and corrosion. Rejection is carried out by ВСН 012-88 part 1 п. 4.6.
- Instrumental control: carried out in order to determine the ovality at the ends, the curvature of the pipe, the size of the detected defects during visual inspection. Screening is carried out according to BCH 012-88 part 1 p. 4.5 ..
- Pipes are cleaned from the remains of the insulating coating, dirt is carried out by a hydro-jet (not violating the surface structure of the pipe metal) high-pressure apparatus.
- Carrying out 100% visually measuring and selective control with an ultrasonic thickness gauge. Based on the results of device control and instrumental control, defective statements for the diagnosed pipe are compiled.
- Replacing defective pipe sections: Pipe sections with defects that do not meet the requirements of regulatory documentation must be removed. Defective pipe sections are replaced by coils.
- Welding of pipe joints and welding of coils is carried out in accordance with BCH 006-89 by special instructions. Welding equipment and welding methods are protected by patents of Ukraine. All welded ring joints during pipe welding and coil welding are subject to 100% X-ray and ultrasound inspection in accordance with BCH 012-88. Quality control of welding is carried out by operational inspection, external inspection, integrity verification of the deposited metal by physical non-destructive testing methods (ultrasonic testing, radiographic inspection).
- Repair of the pipe body is performed by manual arc welding in accordance with РД 51-108-86 (instructions on the technology of welding and cutting pipes in the repair and restoration work on gas pipelines). Grinding of repaired areas is carried out by angle grinders.
- Mechanical processing of the pipe edges by machine equipment is performed after the completion of all restoration work.
- The repaired pipes are subjected to shot blasting, dust removal and degreasing, which allows you to clean the surface of the pipes and prepare them for applying anti-corrosion coatings.
- At the request of the customer, an additional hydraulic test of the pipes is carried out according to the normative documents.
- Conclusion on a numbered pipe indicating all the geometric and mechanical parameters of the pipe, repair locations, protocols for non-destructive testing as well as permissible operating pressure.
An external anticorrosion coating with extruded polyethylene according to TU U-27.2-31017014-001: 2005 or an external polyurethane coating with an airless spraying device can be applied to the restored pipes. The application of an internal anti-corrosion coating with epoxy compositions according to TU U-27.2-31017014-003: 2011 can also be performed.
The technologies for the restoration of steel pipes introduced at LLC SPE “Ukrtruboizol” allow guaranteed to increase the period of trouble-free operation of pipelines mounted from reconditioned pipes by 35-50 years. At the same time, the cost of major repairs of oil and gas pipelines does not exceed 50% of the cost of building a new pipeline.
Pipes restored by the efforts of LLC SPE “Ukrtruboizol” can be used for repair and construction work on oil and gas pipelines, and can be used on heating pipelines, water pipelines, in the mining industry, in energy, and construction.
